Recycled plastic bottles used to make road bridge

I found an article on that gave me a feel-good warm glow about the state of recycling in the UK. It reports that:

“A squad of sappers from the Royal Engineers has helped build the first road bridge in Europe to be made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.”

“The eco construction was made possible after an innovative Welsh company turned 50 tonnes of waste plastic into a record 90-foot thermoplastic road bridge suitable for heavy good vehicles.”

That’s an amazing use of our old plastic bottles, when you consider just how large the bridge is and the weight of vehicles that it can support. Also of note that being made from plastic means that the bridge won’t be susceptible to rust, doesn’t need painting or routine maintenance and is 100% recyclable!
